I recently made a submission to the government inquiry into non-payment or underpayments of employees. The purpose of my submission was to point out the complexities of the current Modern Awards (under the Fair Work Act), the un-level playing field the system perpetuates, along with the structural unfairness built into the system and how these elements impact on small business.
I refer to the Senate Standing Committee on Economics inquiry announced on the 13th of November 2019, into the causes, extent and effects of unlawful non-payment or underpayment of employees’ remuneration by employers and measures that can be undertaken to rectify this issue.
The current system of paying workers is complex, counter-productive, punitive and detrimental to the future prosperity of our country.
Small and medium enterprises in particular, but all businesses in general are being penalised for a piece of legislation that is not fulfilling its original intent of the enduring principle of fairness.
